Walking in the evening is wonderful. I enjoy being out and about at times when most people are in their homes. I think this goes back to the time when I worked in a service station and became enthralled by the visits of bands and other characters who travelled at night. Tributaries of the river Frome weaves their way through the waterbeds at Bockhampton and there is a path there, trodden by luminaries such as Thomas Hardy. It was an almost spontaneous decision to walk along the riverside path at sunset. Something about the light, the stillness and the inky colours drew me to the variety of the ripple shapes in the stream.
