You will probably know the work of the artist Escher with his black and white illustrations of images gradually morphing into other images. I admire the calculated, mathematical nature of his drawings although I also find them slightly cold and methodical. When I first began to notice how we alarmed the crows on walks, seeing them rise up and appear out of the hedgerows as we walked past, I still didn’t make the link with Escher’s work. But then I saw one of my photographs in a new way. The hedges gradually turning into crows, the birds gradually turning into the clouds in the sky. A natural phenomenon; did Escher see this as well?
