During a visit to Dartmoor in autumn 2009 I ended up in the middle of the River Dart near Two Bridges. Being in the middle of a river gives one a sense of the power of the water as it bears down on the stones and other obstacles in its way. This stone had been rolled to a key position and then become an influence on the current. A strong metaphor for many aspects of life; from the extraordinary achievements of people who overcome all that life throws at them, to those that stand strong and refuse to join in with an abusive crowd. And in the process, the stone had been shaped into a perfect natural sphere - dark, ponderous and glowing with age-old wisdom.
