Every year I visit the Lake District. It is the place where I write songs, dream
up crazy ideas like putting on an art exhibition and learning new instruments.
We took a rowing boat out on Derwent Water. You row past the house where Beatrix
Potter stayed as a young girl, where she got the ideas for stories such as Squirrel
Nutkin. Then onward to St Herbert’s Island to stop and rest, have a picnic, pretend
you are on an adventure. There are places where the lake water laps the island and
drags up seeds and other flotsam and jetsam. This was one such area where I was struck
by the combination of bright colours, bleeding into each other.
