Damian has now begun to paint directly onto Habotai Silk to create some one-off works, using silk dyes. The images are created by freely painting over several layers to create rich colours and effects. Unlike most silk painters, Damian is trying not to us Gutter outlining to stop the ink spreading out of control. Instead he is investigating how the lightest brushstrokes can make fluid, nimble lines and how a light first layer atcs as a control on subsequent areas. As a result these images do not have the distinctive white outlines of most silk painting.
This series will be added to over the coming weeks in time for his Open Studio over the Dorset Arts Weeks from May 28th to June 11th and at other times over the summer.
