Re-Learning - The Violent Marque
A series of paintings and digital prints from 2019-2020. Each work focuses on the re-learning of fine motor skill in my non-dominant arm and hand after they were paralysed due to a brain infection. They are mostly drawn with the left-hand, resulting in a new vocabulary of marks and gestures (some of which were quite wild and uncontrolled at first - The Violent Marque). There are pieces of music written for the Hammer Dulcimer that relate to these paintings.
The black and white writings, are digitally printed banners from ink writings, done with the left hand.
