Damian Clarke - Images, Words and Music Interlaced
Damian involves visual art, music and words in his exhibitions. As in his images, genre definition is blurred, and allowed to escape, resulting in a new experience for the participant.
Having recovered from some paralysis of the left arm in 2019, Damian has produced a series of new works; paintings, ink banners and digital prints, that explore drawing with the non-dominant hand and relearning fine motor skills. There are also new musical pieces to go with the exhibitions of this work.
Inspired by strong memories created by places and natural phenomena, such as edges that become blurred, where natural objects grow into each other displaying gradual change. Damian likes to highlight small, often insignificant features of the landscape and give them a new presence.
Some works incorporate text within the image or around the edges, using his songwriting skills. Soundscapes written on the Hammer Dulcimer are a further dimension and can be integrated into his exhibitions.
A book has been produced with a series of images alongside their texts. Highly personal reflections that will provide a channel for contemplation.
